Known only from the rivers Sizandro, Safarujo and Alcabrichel in Estremadura, central western Portugal (Ref. 55625). Fish populations are under critical situation. The drainages where this species occurs receive discharges of large amounts of sewage from pig farms, distilleries and the very intense agriculture of the surrounding area (Ref. 55625). Threatened due to pollution, intensive agriculture and water abstraction (Ref. 59043).

Status of threat: endangered (Ref. 59043).
