Widespread across most of eastern and central U.S. in Atlantic, Great Lakes, Mississippi River, Hudson Bay (Red River) basins from New York to North Dakota and Wyoming, and south to Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas (but absent from most of lower Ohio River basin}; Gulf Slope drainages of Texas (Ref. 86798). Type locality: Licking River, Kentucky (Ref. 79012). Common to abundant throughout much of range but generally absent in Piedmont and Coastal Plain, uncommon on Great Plains (Ref. 86798). Abundant in most upland waters of the eastern United States but mostly restricted to the Blue Ridge in Atlantic Coastal drainages (Ref. 10294). |
