Known from Great Lakes, and Mississippi River basins to Minnesota and northern Georgia (Applachian Mountains); and headwaters of Chattahoochee River (Gulf basin) (Ref. 86798). Native from Iowa to Long Island; indigenous to higher elevations of the Appalachian Mountains as far south as Georgia (Ref. 27549). Also Ref. 5723, 7251, 10294, 75154.
