Type localities: Karumba, Queensland, AMS I.6195 (holotype of Periophthalmus expeditionium, 3.96 cm SL); spawning ponds, Bowstead’s barramundi farm, on bend of river NE of Harrison Dam, Adelaide River, NTM S.11193-005 (holotype of Periophthalmus murdyi, 3.8 cm SL male) (Ref. 83599). Known from North-western Australia, and from Derby in Western Australia to Roper River in Northern Territory (Ref. 76839).

Known from Port Hedland to Townsville. Recorded from Onslow (WA) to the vicinity of Cooktown (Qld) (Ref. 44894). Also Ref. 2847, 5218, 11344, 76839, 075154.
