Ranges from Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro southward; more common in the southern region, occurring sporadically north of Santa Catarina (Ref. 36453). Museum: Praia de Cassino, Rio Grande do Sul, MCN 2401 (holotype of S. meridionalis). Praia do Farol da Conceicao (Sao Jose do Norte), Rio Grande do Sul, MCN 2399 (paratype of S. meridionalis) (Ref. 26268).
