Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in small groups in a wide variety of habitats such as large lowland rivers, canals, warm streams and lakes. Avoids very fast waters and usually found on sand bottom (Ref. 59043). A short-lived species which inhabits running clean waters with gravelly or sandy bottoms (Ref. 12291). Preys on a variety of small invertebrates. Life span is about 4 years. Threatened due to pollution, river-bed alterations and competition from introduced Gobio gobio (Ref. 59043).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00603 (0.00290 - 0.01252), b=3.12 (2.95 - 3.29), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.3   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Generation time: 1.5 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 1 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
