Snout-to-anus length greater than in other species; presence of pigment on snout, and postanal band. Pigmentation: Preflexion: heavy bar develops from dorsal and ventral midline pigment (4th or 5th to 14th or 15th postanal myomere), up to 170 in bar; above brain; on nape, upper and lower jaw, isthmus, gular, otic and cleithral regions, preopercle, and opercle; dorsolaterally on gut; on both surfaces of pectoral fin base and proximally on blade. Flexion-postflexion: proximal regions of pelvic and anal fins. Transformation-pelagic juvenile: postanal bar expands, second bar appears at midbody below dorsal spines V-XI, and saddle forms below dorsal spines I-III; entire head and body covered; 3 blotches form on membrane of first dorsal; large blotch forms on proximal region of second dorsal. Sequence of fin development: caudal, pectorals, dorsal and anal and pelvics. Also Ref. 34817. |
