Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Philippines (Ref. 46206), Indonesia and northwestern Australia.
Diagnosis:  Silvery with reddish mid-lateral line that breaks up into spots and red bar below eye. Barbels yellow (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  In shallow to deep coastal muddy substrates. Swims in small to large aggregations and mixes with other similar species (Ref. 48636).

Country info:  Type locality: Cavite, Luzon, SU 9244 (holotype of Upeneus luzonius, 9.5 cm SL) (Ref. 46206, 48636, 95469). Collected from Panay Island, Iloilo (USNM 102649), Garo River (USNM 106829) and Manila Bay (USNM 138658) (Ref. 83903).
