Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 50 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Reports from the Indian Ocean are based on specimens of Apogon bryx and those from the Philippines by Fowler and Bean (1930) are Apogon fasciatus.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Description: Characterized by whitish overall color; pair of narrow dark stripes on upper half of body and adjacent pearly stripes; greatest depth of body 3.1-3.4 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs mainly in shallow waters and tide pools (Ref. 58479). Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 57178. Solitary or in small groups (Ref 90102).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  All specimens listed by Fowker and Bean (1930) as Amia kiensis are Apogon fasciatus. Recorded from Lanuza Bay (Ref. 104756). Also in Ref. 280, 9710, 48613, 90102.
