Family:  Malakichthyidae (Temperate ocean-basses)
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 391 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Philippines.
Diagnosis:  Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-8. This species has a pair of distinct spines on chin; proximal-middle radial of first anal-fin pterygiophore straight and with long, narrow cone-shaped hollow; well developed lateral wing; anal-fin rays III, 7 (rarely 8); pectoral-fin rays 14 (rarely 13); body depth 36-41% SL; lateral line scales 46-50; 6-7 transverse scale rows above lateral line; 21-22 gill rakers on lower arm (Ref. 76883).
