Family:  Atherinidae (Silversides), subfamily: Atherinomorinae
Max. size:  10 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Ryukyu Islands (Ref. 559) and Taiwan (Ref. 12711).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-11; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-12. Anus set between tips of pelvic fins, just below origin of dorsal fin, Lower jaw highly elevated posteriorly. Attains 10 cm SL.
Biology:  Forms schools near the surface of inshore waters. Feeds on zooplankton. Not a tasty food fish.
