Distribution:  Western Pacific: Philippines and Taiwan, north to Japan.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Oviparous (Ref. 205). Eggs are encased in horny shells (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 02 September 2019 (A2d) Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  The Philippine endemic Hydrolagus deani Smith & Radcliffe 1912, considered synonymous to H. mitsukurii, has the range of the latter extended to this country from Japan. However, existence was not observed by the WWF project (Ref. 47737).
