Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Corinae
Max. size:  8.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 8 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Singapore to West New Guinea, Indonesia (Ref. 1601) and Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Similar to H. timorensis and best distinguished by the more horizontal line pattern on the cheek (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Found in shallow coastal reef flat and gutters with algae and sparse coral growth. Occurs in small loose aggregations. Males territorial with numerous females spread over a section of reef (Ref. 48636).
