Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Diaphinae
Max. size:  6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 489 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific. South China Sea (Ref.74511).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic. Often appears with sergestid shrimp Sergia spp., marine hatchetfishes Argyropelecus spp. and Polyipnus spp. (Ref 39633).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 25 June 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Collected between Bohol and Leyte islands (holotype of D. aliciae) and off northern Mindanao I. (holotype of D. layi) (Ref. 280). Also Ref. 4066.
