Family:  Ipnopidae (Deep-sea tripod fishes), subfamily: Ipnopinae
Max. size:  20.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 250 - 5150 m
Distribution:  Circumglobal, excluding the western Atlantic. Eastern Atlantic: Liberia to Nigeria.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-10. Black in color.
Biology:  Occurs on the continental slope, rise and abyss. Extremely eurybathic (250-5,150 m) and eurythermic (10-5°C) (Ref. 3590). Benthic (Ref. 58302).
