Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 150 - 450 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Japan to the Philippines.
Diagnosis:  Body moderately elongate. Tail slender, attenuate at tip. Snout bluntly pointed, protruding beyond tip of lower jaw. Preserve specimen, head and body pale brown dorsally, much paler on belly. Caudal fin black, pectoral fin pale (Ref. 37528). Dorsal-fin origin slightly behind anteriormost insertion of pectoral fin to above middle of appressed fin. Preanal lateral line pores 29-32 (Ref. 36324).

Country info:  Known at depths of about 155 to 350 meters. Museum: southeast of Talaga, Batangas Bay, CAS 40910 (holotype of B. randalli, 35.1 cm TL). Talaga Cove, CAS 34917. Southeast of San Pedrino Bay, Balayan Bay, CAS 34435 (Ref. 7446). Collected during the Hearst Expedition 2011 done off Batangas and Mindoro, off SW Luzon (Ref. 95664). Recorded from Leyte Gulf between 1.8 - 10 m depth (Ref. 68980).
