Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 5 - 30 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea and Gulf of Oman south to Natal, South Africa and east to the western Pacific where it ranges from southern Japan to Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Characterized by having transparent pinkish body; broad reddish brown band from snout to the anal-fin base; broad dark brown band at the middle of the body surface (Ref. 93839); depth of body 2.7-3.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs inshore (Ref. 7300). Rocky and rubble reef, secretive under pieces or in the back of low caves (Ref. 48635). Solitary and cryptic, hides under ledges and rocks (Ref 90102).
