Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  5.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 15 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: East Africa to Samoa, north to the Yaeyamas, south to the Great Barrier Reef.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 9-10. Semi-transparent to whitish, silvery on sides; blue spots may be present on operculum and behind pectoral fins; black spot at base of caudal fin (Ref. 2334).
Biology:  Occurs in sheltered lagoons and bays, above branching corals and among reef crevices. Forms large schools, often with other species (Ref. 1602, 2334, 37816). Nocturnal (Ref. 7300).
