Vanacampus poecilolaemus (Peters, 1868)

Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  27 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 1 - 11 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: southern Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Reported from estuaries and shallow weedy bays. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 17 cm SL.
