Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Myctophinae
Max. size:  16 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 500 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: isolated specimens taken as far north as 25°S in the Benguela Upwelling Region. Western Atlantic: south of the Subtropical Convergence; two records 50°40'S, 50°01'W; 47°50.6'S, 40°00.8'W. Western Pacific: Australia (Ref. 7300) and New Zealand. Eastern Pacific: off Chile.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 20-23
Biology:  Oceanic over the outer edge of the continental shelf and upper regions of the slope (Ref. 27121). Nyctoepipelagic at the surface (Ref. 4479).
