Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Sicydiinae
Max. size:  4.34 cm SL (male/unsexed); 2.98 cm SL (female)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, amphidromous
Distribution:  Asia: currently known from Ambon and Halmahera, Maluku and Yapen Island, Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-11. Second dorsal fin with 9 segmented rays; pectoral fin usually with 15 rays; lateral scales usually 33-36 extending dorsal to pectoral base; predorsal midline with cycloid scales, may be naked anteriorly; belly with few scales close to anus; and males with first dorsal din appearing triangular, higher than second dorsal fin, spines not filamentous, 2 broad black bars ventral to dorsal fins.
Biology:  Occurs with S. atratus in fairly wide streams and in rather calm waters, unlike most Stiphodon.
