Family:  Apteronotidae (Ghost knifefishes), subfamily: Apteronotinae
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Amazon and Orinoco basins.
Diagnosis:  This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: presence of a large eye, eye diameter 7-10% HL (vs. 6-9% HL) (shared with S. patriciae); with an ossified third basibranchial; 4-5 curved displaced hemal spines; an elongate swim bladder that extends beyond the posterior limit of the body cavity (Ref. 126780).
