Max. size:  4.5 cm SL (male/unsexed); 4.2 cm SL (female)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 5 m, amphidromous
Distribution:  Asia: Japan, Philippines, and Indonesia (Ref. 7050) and China (Ref. 86585). Oceania: Papua New Guinea (Ref. 2847), Palau (Ref. 6371) Solomon Islands (Ref. 26726), New Caledonia and Vanuatu (Ref. 87781).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Longitudinal scales 33-34; transverse scales 11-12; predorsal scales 2-6. Maxillary extends beyond midline of eye, upper jaw prominent; lips fleshy. Gill opening small, only from upper to lower margin of pectoral fin base. Head naked above behind eye. Scales on predorsal and behind pectoral cycloid; on other part of body ctenoid. Spines of 1st dorsal about equal (Ref. 43550).
Biology:  Adults occur in rocky creeks (Ref. 2847). Also found in small, steep-gradient creeks, usually within 20 km of the sea (Ref. 2847).
