Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 15 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from Western Australia to Papua New Guinea; north to Japan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5; Vertebrae: 24. Snout very short, about equal to orbit diameter. Ascending process of premaxilla extending into interorbital space. Body depth of adults 2.0-2.2 in SL. Longitudinal scale series 37-39 (Ref 42181). Description: Characterized by variable coloration, usually matching surrounding substrate; double upper opercular spine; highly arched nape and anterior body, humpback appearance; broad interorbital 4.1-4.2 in head length; deep occipital pit (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Inhabits coral reef. Benthic (Ref. 75154). Collected in less than 15 m depth (Ref 90102).
