Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
Max. size:  38 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 20 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea (Ref. 8883) and Somalia (Ref. 30573).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in shallow water, often over sand or weed bottoms with coral heads (Ref. 9710). Found in pairs or small groups (Ref. 9710).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 September 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
