Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: known only from localities around San Fernando de Atabapo and San Carlos de Rio Negro, Territorio Amazonas, Venezuela.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal soft rays: 171-193; Vertebrae: 94-97. Body abruptly attenuated caudally; 23 precaudal vertebrae; cranium higher than in other members of the family; anal rays covered by a thick tissue, giving an undulated shape to the anal fin; basibranchials not ossified (cartilaginous matrices); tail about 1/5 of anal fin base; lateral line incomplete; no scalation on dorsoanteriorly and middorsally.
