Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 5 - 50 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Pakistan to the Andaman Islands. Records outside this area are probably misidentifications (e.g. of Johnius dorsalis in Africa).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in coastal waters. Enters estuaries (Ref. 4833). Feeds on invertebrates and small fishes (Ref. 30573). Marketed fresh, dried salted.
