Max. size:  22 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: French Guiana in Approuague, Mana and Maroni rivers.
Diagnosis:  Anal soft rays: 132-164; Vertebrae: 70-82. Can be distinguished by having the following characters: seven to eight dark and clear alternating wide vertical bands on body; a foramen in the scapula; 14-15 precaudal vertebrae; 132-164 anal-fin rays (vs. more than 160 in all known Sternopygids); snout short (less than one third heald length); and mouth subterminal (Ref. 86967).
Biology:  Caught with Anostomus brevior and Cynopotamus essequibensis (Ref. 86967).
