Family:  Haemulidae (Grunts), subfamily: Haemulinae
Max. size:  22.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 30 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Costa Rica to Brazil.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  It is found in estuarine, coastal waters, and coral reefs, in sandy and rubby substrates up to a depth of 30 meters. The largest specimen observed was 22.4 cm, standard length (Ref. 122368).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 14 July 2020 Ref. (130435)
