Family:  Fundulidae (Topminnows and killifishes)
Max. size:  8.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  North America: USA from Santee River drainage in South Carolina to Trinity River drainage in Texas; Former Mississippi Embayment north to Kentucky and Missouri. East of Mississippi River mostly restricted to lower Coastal Plain.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in swamps, sloughs, vegetated pools, and backwaters of sluggish creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294). Feed primarily on insects (Ref. 10294). Not a seasonal killifish. Is easy to maintain in the aquarium (Ref. 27139).
