Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Cynoglossinae
Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Kenya to Natal, South Africa. Also Zanzibar and Madagascar (Ref. 6806).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 98-105; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 78-84. Upper side of body and fins pale brownish with dark spots and blotches; 2 lateral lines on eyed side, none on blind side (Ref. 4418).
Biology:  Enters brackish waters (Ref. 6805). Feeds on small invertebrates (Ref. 5213).
