Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Cynoglossinae
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 220 - 1425 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea (Ref. 9942) and the Gulf of Aden. Cynoglossus acutirostris is very similar to Cynoglossus carpenteri.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 125-125; Anal soft rays: 100-100
Biology:  Found on sandy bottoms (Ref. 30573). Feeds on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 30573).
