Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; depth range 1 - 6 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in shallow water and always in the presence of plants (e.g. Vallisneria sp.). Males are territorial and prefer rocks but some are found nesting among the weeds. Females are mainly seen foraging in the weed beds. Grazes mainly on loose algae from plant leaves (Ref. 5595).
