Max. size:  22 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 30 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New South Wales, Australia and New Zealand.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in rock pools and subtidal area down to 30 m (Ref. 9003). Inhabits kelp beds, sometimes with loose weeds on sand; also in coastal bays. Feeds on weed dwelling crustaceans and small fish (Ref. 9003). Viviparous (Ref. 94108).
