Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  89 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 336 - 700 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Kyushu-Palau Ridge (Philippine Sea).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Anal spines: 0-0. Head large; eyes large; snout long, moderately pointed. Light organ small, apparent externally as a narrow blackish streak extending anteriorly from the anus to about midway between the pelvic insertions and the anal fin origin. Overall color is brown, bluish over trunk, with 5 or 6 broad saddle marks extending below the lateral line; the fins blackish, except for the whitish base and tip of the first dorsal fin; the mouth is bluish gray, the gill cavities black.
