Max. size:  14 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Central and South America: Mexico and the Antilles to Brazil in the Atlantic drainage.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 50-55; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 70-74. Remarks: gray with white blotches, deep body, snout not projecting, convex nape continuing the profile of the body.
Biology:  May swim upstream to an elevation of 60 m and a straight line distance of some 20 km from the coast. Found in rivers and creeks. Feed on crustaceans.
