Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Bodianinae
Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Zanzibar, Tanzania and Inhambane, Mozambique (Ref. 4392); Japan to Taiwan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-10. Presumed females rosy with blues spots on back close to dorsal fin base; 2-3 indistinct longitudinal series of pearly spots along sides; indistinct blue band around orbit continuing to snout; opercle with greenish blotch on posterior part and broad blue patch on lower half (Ref. 4392). Presumed males with 2 longitudinal streaks on upper side (Ref. 4392).
Biology:  Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205).
