Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  13.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: found almost anywhere around Lake Tanganyika except in the extreme north, north of Nyanza Lac (Burundi) (Ref. 46829).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur over sand bottoms near rocks where they feed. Form schools (Ref. 6770). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 86760).
