Diagnosis: |
Dorsal spines (total): 1-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-8; Anal spines: 2-3; Anal soft rays: 19-22; Vertebrae: 29-31. Distinguished from Betta dimidiata (the only other member of the B. dimidiata group) in having the following combination of characters: iridescent turquoise opercle scales when live ( vs. gold); yellowish-brown body when live (vs. reddish); yellowish fins when live (vs. reddish); rounded caudal fin (vs. lanceolate); more lateral scales (30-32, vs. 29-30); more predorsal scales (20-21, vs. 17-18); deeper caudal peduncle (15.3-17.0% SL, vs. 11.8-14.5) (Ref. 57022). |
