Remarks Benthopelagic. Occurs along the Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone, Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) at depths of 1200-2800 m. Frequently encountered with other macrourids in the MAR. Serves as the final host for several deep-sea fish parasites (Ref. 128242). Feeds on small benthic invertebrates.

Adult Ascarophis longiovata, Capillaria sp., Hysterothylacium aduncum, Neoascarophis longispicula and Spinitectus oviflagellis found in the stomach and intestinal contents.
Parasitism outside host (Adult Cyclocotyloides bergstadi and Chondracanthodes deflexus found in gills.) inside host (Adult Digenea and larvae of Anisakis simplex s.l. and Hysterothylacium aduncum found in the digestive tract. Plerocerci of Bathygrillotia rowei found in the body cavity, liver, and intestines.)
