Ecology of Fundulus diaphanus

Main Ref. Yozzo, D.J. and W.E. Odum, 1993
Remarks Inhabits shallow, quiet margins of lakes, ponds and sluggish streams, usually over sand or mud and often near vegetation. Euryhaline and salinity-tolerant (Ref. 5951). Ostracods, other microcrustaceans and small dipteran larvae, which are components of the invertebrate community associated with the local vegetation, are important to the diet of Fundulus diaphanus diaphanus. This observation supports the popular concept that vegetated aquatic habitats may enhance fish production in estuarine and freshwater habitats by providing an abundant supply of invertebrate prey for larval and juvenile fish consumption (Ref. 42158).
