| Remarks | Spelled Tagan in Ref. 6565 (refering to P. perroteti, a junior synonym). Reported to be a well known freshwater species by people at Moncayo, upper Agusan, Mindanao; considered a nuisance by fishers when caught in nets as it can tear nets to pieces and hurt people who get in the way of its snout (Ref. 6565). In the late 1800's large numbers were found in Laguna de Bay; accounts of fights between a tagan and a crocodile (with the tagan always as victor) were commonly told by fishers of Laguna de Bay, and the Maguindanaos of Ligusan swamp in Cotabatom Mindanao (Ref. 6565). |
