Remarks | Serbian and Croatian It's very questionable if the name used to be vernacular. Today it’s used nowhere. The h- can be explained as a product of contamination of two names for Prionace glauca: the common one ajkula and only once testified hajriba. It could also be a simple hypercorrection of Serbian ajkula. The explanation of -j- as a product of contamination with German Hai(fish) or Serbian hajriba (only once testified) is hypothetical. The -lj- could also be a product of local hypercorrection, otherwise unexplained. |
