Remarks According to Peleliuan fishers, chedui migrate to the edge of the reef dropoff off the eastern shore of Peleliu to spawn. This migration from inside the reef occurs from March through May, usually a few days before the new moon. Spawning occurs around the full moon. The fish return to the reef after the full moon. In this particular spawning site, the schools are found at a depth of about 5 m early in the morning, moving to deeper water as the morning progresses. In May 1976 and April 1977, Johannes (1981) observed densely aggregated schools that remained almost motionless and readily approachable in forty feet of water in the spawning site off eastern Peleliu. According to Ngiraklang, known to be a knowledgeable fisherman, chedui are easily caught with spears when they occur in schools and once an area l has been fished out, the population will not recover in the succedinig years.
